Body Types Explained : Ectomorphs,Mesomorphs & Endomorphs

Ever wondered why your body looks a certain way?

Well, there’s a simple system used to classify the different body types; called “somatotype”.

The Types:

  • Ectomorph
  • Mesomorph
  • Endomorph.

Most individuals display a dominant type, while some may even exhibit the characteristics of two groups.

Aside from the apparent differences in body type, the differences even boil down to the manner in which individuals tolerate certain food groups and/or burn fat. Ectomorphs torch more fuel, on a pound to pound basis and consequently require more calories. While Endomorphs, fail to burn off energy with the same efficiency and consequently require fewer calories. Mesomorphs fall right in the middle.

When they say, “Know your body” understanding your body type and its consequent needs can prove to be a useful tool.

Is it possible to change my body type?

While it’s nearly impossible to change your inherent characteristics like your bone structure, the same isn’t true for your body fat and muscle tone. While it may be harder for an endomorph to cut fat or an ectomorph to gain muscle mass; it’s not unheard of and it's certainly not impossible. The right nutrition, training, and lifestyle hacks can help alter that.
